rConfig GenAI: AI config analysis in plain language

Your network’s smartest engineer, built in. Ask in plain language and get configuration-aware answers in seconds, grounded in your live configs, diffs, and compliance posture. It is Stage 1 of our network AI maturity model, read-only and grounded.

RELIABILITY

AI for network reliability

Move beyond simple diffs. GenAI helps you see and understand what changed, why it matters, and how to fix it.

  • Configuration drift & unintended changes

Detect and explain unauthorized or accidental modifications before they cause outages.

  • Security & compliance insights

Understand risk, policy deviation, and misconfigurations instantly in plain English.

  • Learning mode for teams

GenAI mentors junior engineers with line-by-line explanations of complex configs.

  • Privacy by design

All data remains inside your environment. BYO model + keys, no external logging.

CAPABILITIES

How rConfig GenAI works

Three capabilities layered into every engineer's workflow, all grounded in your live data, all read-only.

  1. Ask anything

Natural-language querying of configs, diffs, ACLs, metrics, and compliance status. Just ask 'Which devices have mismatched VLANs?' and get an instant analysis. Plain-language queries · across configs, diffs, and ACLs · instant, grounded answers.

  2. Learn and mentor

Explain configs, routing tables, ACLs, QoS rules, and architecture choices. Great for onboarding new engineers who need to understand the why behind the config. Explains the why behind a config · routing, ACLs, and QoS in plain English · faster engineer onboarding.

  3. Compliance context

Identifies drift against best-practice profiles or ISO/NIST baselines. GenAI builds a profile of your network's intent and flags deviations automatically. Drift against CIS, NIST, and ISO · profiles your network's intent · flags deviations automatically.

BRING YOUR OWN MODEL

How bring your own model works

rConfig does not host AI models. You bring the model, with your own keys or a local LLM, and the configs are sent only to the model you control. This is what keeps AI config analysis private by default.

  • Your keys, your provider

Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and other compatible services with your own API keys. rConfig calls the provider you choose, on the account you control, and you decide which model runs each request.

  • A fully local LLM

Point rConfig at a local model running inside your own environment. For air-gapped and zero-outbound deployments the AI makes no external call at all, and your configurations never leave the building.

  • The secure connector

rConfig sends configuration context only to the model endpoint you control. Nothing is stored, logged, or shared by rConfig, and you set exactly what context each request is allowed to see.

PROCESS

Automated workflow

Four stages from detection to audit, each one logged, each one reviewable, nothing executed without approval.

  1. Detect Changes

Monitoring config state continuously for any deviation.

  2. Analyze Diffs

GenAI explains what changed and why it matters in plain text.

  3. Roll Back Safely

Explains the safe rollback and the change to reverse, ready for your approval.

  4. Log & Audit

Every action and prompt recorded for compliance.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about rConfig’s GenAI capabilities. Can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Contact our team.

What is rConfig GenAI and how does it work?

rConfig GenAI is built-in AI config analysis. It reads your stored configs, diffs, and compliance status, then answers questions, explains what changed, and narrates drift in plain language. It is read-only, so it analyses and explains but never writes to a device or your network.

Does my configuration data leave my network when I use AI config analysis?

Only to the model you choose, and only if that model is a cloud provider. rConfig does not host AI models and does not sit in the path. With your own keys the configs go to your provider account and nowhere else, and with a local model nothing leaves your environment at all. rConfig stores, logs, and trains on none of it.

Can rConfig's AI config analysis run fully offline or air-gapped?

Yes. Point rConfig at a local LLM running inside your environment and the analysis makes no outbound call. For air-gapped and security-conscious teams the AI works with zero egress, so your configurations never leave the building.

Which LLM providers does rConfig GenAI work with?

You can connect OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and other compatible services with your own API keys, or run a fully local model. You decide which model handles each request, and you can change provider whenever you like.

Do I need to bring my own model, or is one included?

You bring your own model. rConfig does not host inference, so there is no SaaS AI tax and no shared model. Use a commercial provider on your own keys, or a fully local LLM running inside your own environment.

Does the AI explain why a config changed, not just what changed?

Yes, that is the point. A diff shows you what changed; rConfig GenAI explains why it matters, what it affects, and how it measures against your golden baseline and compliance profile, in plain language. It is built for understanding, not just for spotting differences.

Do I need a separate compliance engine for AI config analysis?

No. GenAI reasons over your configs against benchmarks like CIS, NIST and ISO 27001, narrates where a device has drifted, and explains what needs to change to bring it back into line. The analysis is read-only, so it flags and explains rather than enforcing on its own.

Does AI config analysis cost extra per month?

The GenAI capability is included, not a metered add-on. Because you bring your own model, the only running cost is whatever your chosen provider charges for inference, or nothing at all if you run a local model. rConfig does not meter your prompts.
